Frequently Asked Questions

About Executive Function Coaching

Executive Function (EF) coaching helps learners strengthen the skills that allow them to plan, organize, manage time, and follow through on goals. It combines evidence-based strategies with personalized support to help students become more independent and confident learners.

Learn more by reading this article or watching this video, which explain what EF coaching is and how it can help your student succeed.

What can I expect from an EF coach?

An EF coach works collaboratively with students to develop practical strategies for success. This may include:

  • Building time management and organization skills

  • Creating study systems and daily routines

  • Collaborating with parents, teachers, and service providers

  • Encouraging motivation and self-reflection

  • Supporting self-advocacy and emotional regulation

What an EF coach does not do:  provide therapy, tutoring in specific academic subjects, or diagnostic evaluations.

For more details, read this article explaining the scope and limits of EF coaching.

My child is unsure about coaching. What should I do?

It is common for students to feel uncertain about starting coaching. We recommend this article on how to introduce the idea of EF coaching to your child. It includes a helpful script to guide the conversation and address common concerns.

Can I just be my child's executive function coach?
Parents  play a vital role in their child's growth, but the parent-child relationship has a natural power dynamic. This can make feedback and accountability more challenging.

Working with an EF coach provides a neutral, professional space where students can develop their skills without added pressure at home. This allows parents to focus more on connection and support rather than conflict.
